The biological meaning of adult refers to an animal that is capable of reproduction. Within the human realm, adults refer to social and legal concepts. A legal adult is, as opposed to "minors" (also known as non-adults) can be defined as someone older than the average age and consequently considered responsible, independent as well as autonomous. Also, they can be described as an "major". The average age at which you can attain the legal age of adulthood is 18 but the definition can vary based on laws, countries and the level of development in psychological terms.

Adulthood, as typically understood, is at the age of either 20 or 21. Old age is about 60 years later than middle years. The adulthood process is split into three distinct stages beginning with the early years of adulthood (18-mid-30s) between mid-30s and the mid-60s then late adulthood from mid-60s up to death. In the early years of adulthood the body is at its physical maturity to the maximum. But, the body's size and weight could increase. When we are young our physical capabilities are at their highest such as muscular strength, reaction time, sensory abilities, and heart function.
